Danceworks Children's Camp and Workshop Policies
Danceworks camps and workshops are appropriate for all students within the specified age range.
Camp and workshop size is limited, so be sure to enroll early.
A $25.00 non-refundable deposit is required when registering for a camp or for the spring break workshop. This holds your child's place in camp. The deposit will be applied to the camp tuition and can be transferred to another camp week but will not be refunded. Any balance due on camps must be paid in full by two weeks before the first day of camp.
Withdrawing from a Camp: If a student should need to withdraw from a camp and we receive notice at least three weeks prior to the start of a camp, a full refund will be issued, less an administrative fee of $25. If notice is received after the deadline, a credit for the full amount will be issued. Credits can be used for any Danceworks class or program and will remain on the student's account for one year from the date the credit was issued. Transferring camp fees from one week to another week is possible depending on availability of the individual week. Advance notice is required to transfer to another week.
Extended Care: Early drop-off between 8am-9am and late pick-up between 4pm-5pm is available for all full day summer camps (not available for half day camps). Rates for this service are $20.00/week for one option and $30.00/week for both per student. Early drop off between 7 am-8am and late pick-up between 3pm-4pm is available for all school day off workshops. Rates for this service are $5/workshop for one option and $7/workshop for both before and after care.
Friday Finales! The Grand Finale of each camp week will be an informal performance for friends and family that will take place in the Danceworks Studio Theatre during the last half hour of the day on the last day of camp.
Paperwork: Each student must turn in a completed information packet, which includes a medical waiver, pick-up authorization form, and additional student information page, by one week before the start of the camp/workshop. Students without completed paperwork will not be allowed to participate.
Full and partial camp and workshop scholarships are available.
Does my child need to have prior dance experience to attend a Danceworks Summer Creative Arts Camp/School Day Off Creative Arts Workshop? No prior dance experience is needed. Danceworks' summer camp faculty are professional educators who are experienced in working with students of all levels and can accommodate a combination of students with and without experience. Each creative arts session will be age-appropriate with an emphasis on trying new things, enjoying the creative process and having fun.
What should my child bring to camp/workshop? FULL DAY CAMPERS should bring a nutritious lunch including a drink (no soda or candy please). All lunches should be packed in a thermal bag/box with your child's name clearly marked, and we ask that your child bring his or her things in a backpack to help keep belongings together. You may also wish to provide a nutritious snack for your child for break time.
Please note that refrigeration will NOT be provided for lunches, snacks or drinks.
How should my child dress for each day of camp/workshop? To help eliminate messy stains on clothing you may wish to provide an art smock for your child. Please mark your child's name on the inside collar of the smock. Danceworks also has art smocks available. Please dress your child comfortably in cool, loose clothing. Children will be dancing, painting and doing other physical activities without changing, so please make sure your child's clothing is adaptable and is allowed to get messy. Bare feet are best for dancing. If your child does not like to be barefoot while dancing, ballet, jazz shoes or other elastic type slippers can be worn.
Will my child need special dance shoes for camp/workshop? Campers will not need dance shoes, and can wear socks or dance barefoot, but they should have socks, flip flops or slippers to wear while doing art and moving from activity to activity. Campers who have ballet shoes or jazz shoes should bring them each day to wear in the dance portion of the camp day. Please label shoes with your child's name. If your child's camp will include tap dancing and you do not have tap shoes for him or her, shoes can be borrowed for the week.
How is the day structured?
What if my child does not want to participate in a particular activity?
How do I drop off my child each day? You will be allowed to drop off your child 15 minutes before the day is scheduled to begin. Lot parking is available ONLY after 5 pm M-F, so parents are asked to use the free 2-hour street parking in front of the Danceworks building on Water Street. Each camper will need to be signed in and out each day, so please plan to come in with your child each day.
Does Danceworks offer before and after care for summer camps? Danceworks offers before and after care for full day camps and workshops only. Please see the camp rate section for more information.
How will the week-long camp end? Each camp will end with an informal performance during the last 30 minutes of the last day of camp. Family and friends are invited to attend and bring cameras and video cameras to capture all the fun their child had during the week of camp at Danceworks.
